GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the POPC will deliver high quality, harm reduction focused overdose follow-ups to individuals, families and businesses that have experienced an overdose. The POPC will be responsible for coordinating outreach events with first responder partners, documenting every encounter with individuals, and entering all data into the RedCap system for MDPH. The POPC will work with the program manager to develop and present first responder trainings about harm reduction, substance use, safer use and overdose. The POPC will be responsible for following up with individuals after the initial visit and on an ongoing basis for at least 3 months. The POPC will go out weekly with various first responders and outreach staff to provide overdose prevention education and Naloxone distribution to communities on the North Shore.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with community partners on a weekly basis to go out on outreach.
- Train any new first responder partners in harm reduction, safer use and outreach to people who use drugs.
- Provide written and verbal harm reduction information on safer injection strategies, vein and abscess care, overdose prevention, Nasal Naloxone administration, sexual health and HIV/STI/Hepatitis transmission to at risk clients.
- Provide and disseminate materials such as condoms, lube, safer injection equipment, Naloxone, brochures, educational materials, etc. that is culturally appropriate and increases the patient’s level of awareness and understanding of HIV/STI/VHP transmission, risk and prevention strategies.
- Provide clients with easily accessible and low threshold services that operate within a harm reduction framework. This includes assisting clients with accessing support services such as primary care, substance use and mental health treatment, homeless shelters, housing and legal advocacy.
- Conduct on and off-site trainings on overdose prevention and Naloxone distribution to active opioid users, their family, members of their social networks and service providers.
- Serve as first responder and administer Naloxone during an overdose that may occur on or off site.
- Take the lead in daily operations of the post program, making sure all supplies are in stock required for outreach.
- Coordinate and document supported referrals and linkage to care.
- Work with collaborating partners and other providers, CBOs, ASOs and patients to track completion of supported referrals and document status/progress in referral log.
- Attend meetings, conferences and trainings to expand knowledge of substance use disorder, overdose and drug use safety and other co-morbid conditions and related issues and be current on new developments as required by supervisors.
- Complete all necessary paperwork, medical record documentation, and reporting requirements in a timely fashion.
- Establish and maintain a good rapport and harmonious relationships with staff, patients, other program staff and collaborating partner agency/program staff.
- Perform duties consistent with agency/program policies and procedures.
- Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards; Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
- Perform other related work duties as needed or as required by supervisor or designee.

TYPE OF ASSIGNMENT: Full-time 32-40 hours
ANNUAL SALARY: $45,000 to $54,000

Requisitos
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Experience working in public health, preferably harm reduction programs.
High school diploma or GED.
LICENSE(S) OR CERTIFICATION(S) REQUIRED:
Massachusetts Department of Public Health approved opioid overdose trainer.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Prior experience in public health, substance use treatment, emergency response.
Experience with overdose, substance use, mental health issues strongly desired.
Familiarity with and commitment to Harm Reduction theories required.
COMPUTER PROFICIENCY:
Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experienced with CANVA and Vistaprint.
Excellent data entry skills.
Experience with EHR/EMR.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES:
Ability to speak Spanish is desirable, but not required.
Self-directed, motivated, and flexible with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills required.
Cultural and socioeconomic sensitivity in dealing with patients and staff of diverse backgrounds.
Ability to be flexible and work days, nights and weekends as required.
TRAVEL REQUIRED:
Valid Driver’s License and dependable means of transportation.
Ability to travel to statewide clinic sites, meetings, trainings.
Ability to travel to provide health navigation/medical escorting for patients as required.
BACKGROUND CHECK:
Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ability to lift and transfer materials up to 25 lbs. is required.
